7 December 2021, Brussels, Belgium – Gaia-X European Association for Data and Cloud AISBL hosted its Hackathon #2 under its Open Work Package “Minimal Viable Gaia-X and Piloting” being supported by many Working Groups and Open Work Packages on 2 and 3 December 2021.

The 2-day virtual event focused on Identity Management and Self-Descriptions. Over 250 participants came together to:

  • integrate and align different ideas, concepts, pilots, and prototypes to consistent approaches and;
  • increase the technical competence and knowledge related to technology relevant to the Gaia-X ecosystem.

Based on the community’s significant commitment and results, Gaia-X extended the work achieved during the first Hackathon that concluded back on 30 - 31 August 2021, in addition to addressing new components.

“Gaia-X Hackathon is a very important event for the Gaia-X Association to validate our technical specifications, specifically when this is related to identity management and self-descriptions. Thanks to the wonderful engagement from our community, we made progress in the field/area of identity and self-description,” – stated Pierre Gronlier, CTO Gaia-X.

Participants like DeltaDAO, dNation, Intel, AMD, T-Systems, CYSEC, IONOS, secunet, Cloud&Heat Technologies, the Sovereign Cloud Stack, the Eclipse Dataspace Connector, among others, took part in the Hackathon #2 aiming to showcase their diverse skills and abilities.

The Hackathons are open to the entire community - members or supporters of the Gaia-X project. They are an opportunity for everyone to contribute with coding and showcase how active the Gaia-X community is and its general interests. The idea of the Hackathon is to validate the hypothesis of the technical specifications.

Due to the very positive feedback of Hackathon #1 and #2, a follow-up event is planned for the first quarter of 2022.
