Christoph Lange-Bever
Head of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence department, Fraunhofer FIT / Senior Researcher, RWTH Aachen University
Christoph Lange is the head of the Data Science and Artificial Intelligence department at the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology FIT and a senior researcher at the cooperating chair for Information Systems at RWTH Aachen University, Germany. He has been working with Fraunhofer since 2014, with RWTH since 2019. In 2011, he received a Ph.D. from Jacobs University Bremen, Germany for enabling collaboration on semiformal mathematical knowledge by semantic web integration. His research is broadly concerned with knowledge engineering and data infrastructures: choosing the right formalism to represent domain knowledge in an expressive but scalable way following the Linked (Open) Data and FAIR Principles (findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable, or, alternatively “fully AI ready”). This enables and facilitates machine support with sharing, retrieval, analysis, quality assessment, publishing, collaborative authoring, etc. Results have been published in high-profile international journals and conferences (h-index 30 according to Google Scholar). Application domains range from information integration within enterprises to research infrastructures to cross-organization data spaces. These applications have been subject of contractual R&D for leading German and international enterprises in the automotive and other sectors. On semantic web and intelligent computer mathematics topics, Christoph Lange has organised numerous conferences, challenges, trainings and workshops, co-supervised 10 PhD students, taught lectures and coordinated lab and seminar classes, served as an expert for several international funding bodies and contributed to international OMG and W3C standards.
