Gaia-X Discovery Quest

We are excited to introduce the Gaia-X Discovery Quest, an Augmented Reality (AR) game that combines digital and real-world activities. The game is designed for attendees of the Gaia-X Summit 2025 and offers a fun and engaging way to explore Gaia-X concepts while participating in interactive challenges throughout the Summit.

Using your smartphone or tablet, you will explore the Summit venue to find and complete a series of AR and real-world challenges. By completing challenges, you earn Gaia-X coins, and level up from ‘Data Wizard Level 1’ to ‘Data Wizard Level 4’. Throughout the game you can win prizes depending on the number of coins you have earned.

The Gaia-X Discovery Quest is about learning by doing in an engaging, fun environment. Through the game, you’ll:

  • ➤  Explore key Gaia-X concepts like trust, compliance, data economy, and interoperability.
  • ➤  Use Augmented Reality to make these concepts come to life.
  • ➤  Turn the summit into an interactive, educational adventure.

Why is the game played in a magical-themed AR world?

We chose a magical-themed world to make complex digital concepts more engaging, memorable, and easier to understand through strong metaphors. The fantasy setting helps turn abstract ideas into concrete, story-driven quests. With Augmented Reality, we aim to bring the world of data wizardry to life in a fun and immersive way.

The Gaia-X Discovery Quest is closely integrated with the Gaia-X Academy — your go-to source for insights, knowledge, and clues that will help you solve in-game challenges. By joining the Gaia-X Academy, you’ll not only boost your chances of leveling up faster in the game but also deepen your understanding of the Gaia-X ecosystem — turning play into real-world knowledge.

Gameplay – How does it work?

The aim of the game is to collect as many Gaia-X coins as possible by completing challenges and level up from ‘Data Wizard Level 1’ to ‘Data Wizard Level 4’.

The game is played using the Gaia-X AR application on your smartphone or tablet. Through the Gaia-X AR app, you can complete challenges, earn coins, track your progress and receive vouchers for prizes.

In total there are 10 challenges located throughout the venue, each worth a certain number of coins. The challenges are divided into 2 categories:

  • ➤ 5 AR challenges: Find and scan the challenge code with the Gaia-X AR app to unlock a hidden world and collect coins!
  • ➤ 5 Real-world challenges: Complete a physical task and collect your coins using the Gaia-X AR app!

The challenges do not need to be completed in a particular order.

A leaderboard in the networking lounge will display the top 10 players. You’ll have one and a half days to play (until 21 Nov -12:00), but the entire quest can be completed in 20–50 minutes, so there’s no need to rush!

How to get started

  1. Download the Gaia-X AR application from your device’s App store (available soon!)
  2. Create an account by scanning your own badge or create it manually (2 min)
  3. Search for challenges and scan the image code
  4. Complete challenges, collect Gaia-X coins & win prizes!
