What are Gaia-X Hubs?

Gaia-X Hubs bundle user interests across Europe to facilitate the creation of European Data Spaces. They gather use cases, requirements, and standards, to support the Gaia-X Association in setting up and establishing a sovereign data-infrastructure via a common Gaia-X architecture as well as policy rules, standards and Federated Services. Gaia-X Hubs are the central contact points for interested parties in each country, and grassroots supporters of the Gaia-X project.

The role of Gaia-X Hubs is crucial for Gaia-X market adoption as they constitute the Gaia-X think tank, where concrete use cases are investigated, designed and implemented. Hubs are tightly connected to local governments through the ministry devoted to Digital Transformation programs, facilitating the alignment between strategic political initiatives and the Gaia-X endeavor. Hubs group all participants from a specific region, users and providers, to collect user requirements and identify data-sharing initiatives. They focus on supporting the development of data spaces that are relevant or specific to the local region and also collaborate across different territories to ensure the creation of pan-European data spaces. Gaia-X hubs have several objectives. Amongst these are:

  • Act as a local ambassador for Gaia-X
  • Identify territory-specific needs and high-priority data spaces
  • Collaborate with other hubs to develop common pan-European data spaces
  • Make Gaia-X real identifying projects and creating Gaia-X services in the market
  • Help local governments implement Recovery and Resilience Facility in the most effective way by adopting Gaia-X solutions
  • Promote the participation of new members in the association
  • Provide feedback on specific needs and requirements to be implemented in the Gaia-X framework

Gaia-X Hubs are not a body of Gaia-X Association, they are self-organised while closely aligned with the Gaia-X Association. Any organisations and companies that work on and with use cases, create expertise and resources, or are interested to become a stakeholder and create data spaces, are welcome to join the Gaia-X Hubs. A Gaia-X Hub incorporates at least one industrial sector and is open for participation to companies and organisations from other countries as well, especially those that do not have Gaia-X Hubs themselves.
