Why is Europe investing €3.3 billion in Data Space Infrastructure? We are paying rising prises to big tech companies for digital infrastructure, but we are increasingly vulnerable to vendor lock-in, privacy breaches, and cybercrime.

Cybercrime is growing rapidly and could reach $10.5 trillion in 2025, comparable to the world’s 3rd largest economy after the U.S. and China. Norway is an advanced digital society, but we lack common standards and technologies that would enable stronger cybersecurity and fair value creation from data.

A Data Space consists of privacy-enhancing technologies and common standards, which gives individuals, organizations, and municipalities control of their data and the ability to securely share data and digital infrastructure.

Data Spaces are already being piloted in the EU and coming to Norway. A Nordic Digital Innovation Ecosystem is being formed to participate in Data Space projects in critical sectors in collaboration with Digdir, KS, IFE, SINTEF, NR, NTNU, BI, RISE, Fiware, Gaia-X, and several other public and private sector partners in the network.
