05 September 2022 – Brussels, Belgium: Gaia-X, the frontrunner of the European and global democratic approach to digitalisation, data infrastructure ecosystem and data spaces, announces its Agriculture Data Spaces series event (online) on 6 September 2022 from 10:00 – 15:30 CET.
Droughts due to climate change, the unprecedented decline in the staple food supply as a result of the war in Ukraine, growing demand for food due to the rising global population and more. Today, like never before, we need to invest in the agriculture sector to make it more robust and innovative.
Join us at the Gaia-X Agriculture Data Space Event on 6 September 2022 from 10:00 – 15:30 CET.
Gaia-X, in collaboration with Flanders Research Institute for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food has gathered international experts, academic researchers, institutional representatives and entrepreneurial farmers to discuss how to extract value from shared data and then convert it into useful applications or advice.
The data economy is a new growth engine for established supply firms like machinery providers and Agro-chemists, as well as new players, who are digitalising the agri-food sector along the full supply chain from farm to fork. In addition to farmers or AgriFood businesses, consumers are the intended end-users of the new data-driven apps and digital technologies that are being deployed. The willingness to exchange data amongst all AgriFood supply chain partners is essential to maintain innovation and scale up this data revolution in the near future.
Emma Wehrwein, Project Manager Digital Business Models at eco – Association of the Internet Industry, highlights that “The Gaia-X Federation Services bear great potential for enabling economic growth in a magnitude of sectors, the agricultural sector being amongst them. We are excited to share insights into the development of GXFS and the next steps in the implementation phase.”
Panellists will discuss use cases covering the zero-waste approach in agriculture, farmer cooperatives, or European Commission plans toward Agriculture data ecosystems.
“Modern and sustainable agriculture is a necessity if we want to leave a habitable planet for future generations. With Gaia-X Federated Services and lighthouse projects, like Agdatahub, we can achieve this at scale by mobilising data intelligence for healthy, traceable, and environmentally friendly food and technical advice tools to farmers.” Francesco Bonfiglio, Gaia-X’s CEO stressed out.
“Healthy crops and diet, societally acceptable animal production, efficient production systems and value creation that combats climate change and sustains rural development and care for marine production and bio-economy are the core elements of Flanders Research Institute for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food” Tuna Coppens from Flanders Research Institute for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food highlighted.
At Gaia-X we aim to bring together diversified groups that share the values of Gaia-X of establishing digital sovereignty across various sectors, including agriculture, based on the principles of transparency, openness, and trust.
