Gaia-X General Assembly Announces Key Decisions

Brussels, Belgium, June 25, 2024 โ€“ Gaia-X, the European Association for Data and Cloud, is pleased to announce the successful conclusion of ist General Assembly. This event brought together members from across the continent to discuss and decide on critical aspects of the associationโ€™s future direction and governance.

New Independent Board Members Elected

One of the significant outcomes of the General Assembly was the election of five new independent Board members. These individuals bring a wealth of experience and a diverse set of skills that will be instrumental in guiding Gaia-X towards achieving its strategic goals. The newly elected Board members are:

  1. Steve Migley, Board of Directors Member representing Atos/Eviden .
  2. Fabio Momola, Board of Directors Member representing Engineering Ingegneria Informatica SpA .
  3. Marco Goergmeier, Board of Directors Member representing BMW.
  4. Dominique Michiels, Board of Directors Member representing OVHcloud.
  5. Carme Artigas, independent Board of Directors Member, former Spanish Secretary of State for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence.

“We are thrilled to welcome these distinguished individuals to our Board of Directors. Their expertise will be invaluable as we continue to build a secure and federated data infrastructure that aligns with European values,” said Ulrich Ahle, CEO of Gaia-X. “Their perspectives will enhance our governance and help drive our mission forward.”

Membership Fee Reduction for Start-ups and End-users

In a move to foster greater inclusivity and support for start-up membership fees and end-user membership fee, the General Assembly approved a reduction in the fees. This decision underscores Gaia-Xโ€™s commitment to making its resources and network more accessible to a broader range of businesses. For large end users the yearly membership fee was reduced by close to 50% while the fee for ICT providers remained unchanged.

The new membership fee for Start-ups is designed specifically for start-ups that are younger than five years and have an annual revenue of less than 5 million EUR. It applies exclusively to new memberships and does not extend to former members. The membership fee will be revisited after three years to assess if an update to a different membership category is necessary. The fee is set at an accessible 1000 EUR, providing a valuable opportunity for emerging businesses to join and benefit from the Gaia-X ecosystem.

Conclusion

The outcomes of this yearโ€™s General Assembly mark a significant milestone in Gaia-Xโ€™s journey. The election of new Board members and the reduction of membership fees for large end users and for Start-ups are strategic decisions that will strengthen the associationโ€™s governance and broaden its reach and impact.
