As part of our Women in Tech campaign, this sixth interview features Maria Konareva, Head of Cloud and DevOps Competence Centre at Sigma Software. She shares how developing strong cloud and DevOps teams, contributing to open-source technologies, and supporting cloud repatriation initiatives help build resilient, future-ready digital infrastructure across Europe.
Short intro
I lead the Cloud and DevOps Competence Centre at Sigma Software, where I focus on building and developing teams of cloud and DevOps engineers. My role centres on creating cloud platforms that are practical, resilient, and suited to Europe’s digital environment.
How are you driving impact in Europe’s digital ecosystem this year?
Much of my work is about growing strong engineering teams and giving them the space to deepen their expertise. By expanding our cloud and DevOps competence, I help shape digital infrastructure that European organisations can rely on over the long term. This focus on people is what allows us to respond to changing technical and regulatory expectations with confidence.
Open source is a core part of how we work. My teams contribute to open-source and OpenStack-based technologies and use internal platforms to explore new ideas before introducing them to customers. This approach helps us stay grounded in real technical experience and avoid abstract or one-size-fits-all solutions.
I am also involved in advising on cloud repatriation initiatives for our customers, working closely with partnership teams and European providers such as UpCloud. Supporting these transitions is not about following trends, but about helping organisations make informed choices that fit their needs and context.
