Peter Kraemer heads one of the most important hubs in the emerging data ecosystem for Europe: the Gaia-X Hub Germany. Kraemer, who has a degree in sinology and who speaks fluent English and Chinese, works for the German Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech) in Munich,

On Friday, 18 March 2022, the French Hub of Gaia-X organised its fourth plenary session, a hybrid event.
This session was organised in Bercy, in the presence of the Director General of Enterprises, Mr. Thomas Courbe who intervened on behalf of Cédric O to present the main strategic orientations of France for the free flow of data.

This year’s Gaia-X Hackathon #3 was focused on the creation and validation of Self Descriptions.
More than 350 highly skilled professionals virtually gathered across Europe, working together jointly in the following tracks (areas of interest):
Is it possible to offer open and transparent European cloud solutions that comply with European values and remain competitive? A panel of public decision-makers and representatives of the private sector were invited by Orange to give their thoughts.

The concept of interoperability between European clouds are not just a list of sovereign principles on paper. Gaia-X is to achieve interoperability between different European sovereign clouds.
It aims to build an open, transparent, and trustworthy data infrastructure based on European values, security and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). A “combined system of existing cloud providers” will support that data can be merged, migrated and shared securely from one to another without barriers.

The second EuProGigant milestone meeting took place on 10 March, in Darmstadt. The meeting focused on the progress surrounding, resulting use cases, and how the project represents a Gaia-X compliant ecosystem with a concrete business model and associated requirements.

At the heart of the European idea is the conviction that there is strength in unity. This also applies to industrial policy: In the 1970s, for example, the Europeans founded Airbus, a continental aircraft manufacturer that grew to rival the U.S. giants Boeing and McDonnell Douglas.

Silicon Valley invented the Internet and the cloud – and thus the infrastructure for the data economy of the 21st century. And what does Europe bring to the game? We contribute our political know-how: for a federation with fair rules, reliable standards and public technology.

The second Gaia-X Summit was held on 18-19 November, 2021. It was implemented as a hybrid, mainly virtual event, drawing around 4,000 online attendees. Presentations on a wide variety of subjects reflected the complexity of the undertaking. “We are building a spaceship,” said Gaia-X CEO Francesco Bonfiglio in the concluding press conversation.
